Marlene (Callisto) Luehring, age 89, a resident of NCHS Care Center, McVille, ND and prior resident of Tolna, ND, peacefully passed away on Friday, July 25, 2025, at the Sanford Medical Center in Fargo, ND.
Marlene was born May 21, 1936, in Crosby, MN to John and Mary (Vranish) Callisto. Marlene was raised and schooled in the beautiful Cuyuna Range area of Crosby, MN and later left the area to work and live in the Twin Cities, MN metro area with her son Michael.
Marlene met Howard Luehring after attending the wedding of her best friend Phoebe Koebnick (who married Roger Johnson of Tolna, ND) in 1970. One wedding led to another, and Marlene married Howard Luehring on June 19, 1971, and later moved to Tolna with her son.
Marlene kept the books for Howard’s business (Luehring Oil), played in a women’s bowling league, was a member of Ladies Aid and assisted with various activities at the American Lutheran Church of Tolna. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, interacting with friends, playing cards and watching her favorite MN sports teams of the Twins, Vikings and Timberwolves on TV. She was also a big supporter of all the Tolna sports teams back when Tolna still had its own school…Go Trojans!
Marlene was preceded in death by her husband Howard, parents John and Mary (Vranish) Callisto, as well as several brothers and sisters-in-law.
Marlene is survived and remembered by her son, Michael (Michelle) Luehring of Goodyear, AZ; two brothers, Don Callisto of LeCenter, MN and Robert (Jean) Callisto of Deerwood, MN; two sisters, Carrie (Tom) Milbery of Dayton, MN and Donna Kayfes of Hibbing, MN; two grandchildren, Alexis Luehring of Fort Collins, CO and Andrew (Danica) Luehring of Fort Collins, CO; along with several nieces and nephews.
