In mourning and in gratitude, we honor the life of Marshall Robertson Douglas, Jr. who was born on January 13, 1941 in Monroe, LA and left us on May 27, 2025 at the age of 84. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday, May 30, 2025 at Start Baptist Church, Start, LA with Bro. Jeff Thomas officiating. Interment will follow in the Start Cemetery, Start, LA under the direction of Brown-Holley Funeral Home.
Marshall brought joy, laughter, and love to all who knew him. As a devoted husband, veteran, father, friend, and professional with a career in agribusiness and industrial manufacturing, Marshall touched countless lives with his humor, selflessness, mischief, and unwavering spirit.
Marshall will forever be remembered for the way he loved with all his heart, hugged like it was the last and filled your belly and soul with every visit. He loved and nurtured his family and grandchildren fiercely, always watching out for them from near or afar. He always knew how to make you smile with his words (always cracking jokes!), or even songs. He had a song for nearly every occasion! His love for gardening and working in his yard and the pride he took in the finished product will never be forgotten.
Marshall entered the United States Air Force at age 17, in 1958, spending time in France and Germany as a Cryogenic Production Specialist before his honorable discharge in 1962.
Marshall and his wife Gay, met in the Fall of 1963 in their English class at Northeast Louisiana College. They went on to get married in January 1964 at Start Baptist Church and have had 61 loving years together as husband and wife. Marshall was an ordained Deacon in the Baptist Church for over 20 years. He has been a faithful follower of Christ his entire life.
Marshall and Gay enjoyed retirement by traveling to Italy, Germany, Switzerland, Ireland, Austria, and the northeast part of the country. They enjoyed local trips to Branson, Missouri and any time spent together with all their children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Marshall was preceded in death by his parents Marshall and Fannie Douglas, his sisters Annie Mae Davis and Ruth Begley, and brother Donald Douglas.
Marshall is survived by his wife Gay, and children, Carmen Sullivan (Doug), Marshall "Scott" Douglas, and Janet Woodard (Dave). He is also survived by his 11 grandchildren who know him as "Papaw": Megan Langford, April Nassif, Emily Broome, Marshall "Lane" Douglas, Hannah LaCroix-Scoliere, Alyson Wickham, Bryan Douglas, Olivia Wickham, Chloe Wickham, Ashley Issac, and Jennifer Sullivan. Papaw's grandchildren have had the privilege of their children knowing their great grandfather: Mary Ellen, Aiden, Peyton, Carter, Mason, Jameson, Charlotte, Henry, Eliza, Ella Kate, Baker, Sawyer, Azlyn, Ava, and Lily.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests contributions be made to The Alzheimer's Association or to the Chennault Aviation & Military Museum in Monroe, Louisiana
Marshall 's presence was a gift; his absence leaves a silence filled with love and remembrance.
Rest in peace, Marshall. You are loved beyond words.
