Mrs. Martha Jean Brooking passed away on July 1, 2025, at the age of 88. Born on November 14, 1936, to Mannon and Ethel Martin, Martha's life was a tapestry of devotion to her family, friends, and community.
Martha's legacy is one of love and dedication. She is survived by her caring husband, Chessie B. Brooking, Jr., with whom she shared a lifetime of cherished memories for 70 years. Together, they raised a family that includes their loving children Lynn Olzacki (Zack), Carol Moody (David), and Tina Brooking Kitchens (Jim). Martha's life was further enriched by the joy of her grandchildren Stacy (Lonnie), Ryan, Christopher, Joshua (Lauren), Dustin (Shannon), Delani (Gabe), Darci, and her treasured great-grandchildren Noah, Ryder, Jaden (Macie), Haley, Elyn, Shiloh, Saylor, Brooks, Evelyn, Kyson, Kash, and Kendall.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Mannon and Ethel Martin, her baby son, Charles William Brooking, and her brothers Mannon Martin, Jr., Bill Martin, and Joe Martin. Her vibrant spirit will also be fondly remembered by her siblings Donald Martin (Annette), Mary Jane Howard, Fred Martin (Judy), Judy Whitley, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other family members, and a host of close friends who were all touched by her warmth and generosity.
Martha was an active and beloved member of The Baptist Tabernacle, where she found great solace and purpose in her faith. Her commitment to her church community was paralleled by her involvement with the Eastern Star and the Christian's Women Club, where she was admired for her unwavering support and kindness.
An exceptional homemaker, Martha's talents in the kitchen and at the sewing machine were legendary. Her recipes and handmade crafts are treasures that will be passed down for generations. Her love for cooking and sewing created not only beautiful garments and delicious meals but also warm memories that her family and friends will cherish forever.
A Funeral Service for Martha will be at 11:00AM, Saturday, July 5, 2025 at The Baptist Tabernacle with Dr. David C. Moody officiating. Interment will be at Oxford Historical Cemetery following the service. The family will receive friends for visitation from 10:00AM until 11:00AM at the church prior to the service. J.C. Harwell and Son Funeral Home has been entrusted with these arrangements.
