Martha Irene Gonzales, born on December 16, 1948, in Parsons, Kansas, to Gaylord Lee and Thelma (Hayes) Madison entered the world with a passion for learning that would stay with her throughout her life.
From an early age, Martha developed a love for reading, often walking to the library to discover new stories and ideas. This boundless curiosity only grew as she became fascinated with the Amish culture, dedicating time to learning about every intricacy of their way of life. Additionally, Martha had a deep affection for animals, reflecting her compassionate spirit.
Martha became a Certified Medication Aide at Applewood Nursing Home in Chanute, where she provided care and support to those in need. Her dedication to her career was a testament to her nurturing nature and her commitment to helping others.
Martha's life journey came to a peaceful close on January 17, 2025, at Arma Health and Rehab. Her presence will be profoundly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Martha was a member of Living Word Assembly Church in Chanute, Kansas.
Martha is survived by her children, Tammy (Matthew) Cook and Christopher Gonzales; her sister, Kimberlee Anderson; her grandchildren, Derrik (Kayla) Cook, Aeden, Aelah, Melody, Jane, Nihle, Mico, and Calysta; as well as four great-grandchildren.
She leaves behind a legacy of love, learning, and compassion reflected in the lives she touched.
She is preceded in death by her parents, along with her sisters, Mary Lou Hawes and Shelley Shirley, and many beloved aunts, uncles, and cousins, who now greet her in peace.
A funeral service to honor Martha's life will be held on Friday, January 24, 2025, at Wickham Family Funeral Home 500 North Forest Ave. in Chanute, Kansas, beginning at 10:30 AM, burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery, in Chanute, Kansas.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Martha's life, cherishing the memories and the love she shared with each of them.
Memorials are suggested to the Chanute Public Library or ACARF and can be mailed to or left with the funeral home. Services are under the personal care of Wickham Family Funeral Home 500 North Forest Ave. Chanute, Kansas.
