Martha "Sue" Risch, 86, of Niceville, Florida, passed away peacefully on July 3, 2025. Born on December 7, 1938, in Leesburg, Florida, she was the daughter of the late James Darden Cox and Jane Elizabeth Cox (née Chadwick). She was also preceded in death by her beloved husband, Gregory "Greg' Risch, and her sisters, Ann Marie Cox and Lorelei Pignato.
Sue is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Elizabeth "Beth" Marks (Stephen Marks) and Jennifer Stephens (David Stephens), as well as her cherished grandchildren, Carson Stephens, Quinn Marks, and Grayson Marks.
Sue met the love of her life, Greg, at the Officer's Club at Cape Canaveral. Their romance led to a Christmas Eve engagement in Central Park and a beautiful wedding on May 1, 1965. Shortly after, the couple welcomed their first daughter, Beth, and eventually settled in Niceville, Florida (Eglin AFB), where Jennifer was later born. During their time in Niceville, Sue became an active member of the Officers' Wives Club and volunteered with Meals on Wheels, exemplifying her lifelong dedication to service and community.
Over the years, Sue held various positions across the country as the family relocated with Greg's military career. Her professional journey included roles at Owens Corning Fiberglass, Morton Thiokol, Bluewater Realty, and, most notably, 28 years as a contractor at Eglin AFB before retiring on April 1, 2022.
Sue had a zest for life and an unquenchable spirit of adventure. She and Greg shared a love for travel, with favorite destinations including Fiji, Tahiti, and Little Palm Island. After Greg's passing, Sue continued exploring the world with her dear friend Karen, embarking on unforgettable trips across Europe and enjoying luxurious cruises together.
A proud and passionate Notre Dame football fan, Sue could always be found cheering for her Fighting Irish every Saturday in the Fall.
Those who knew Sue will remember her warmth, sense of humor, adventurous spirit, and unwavering love for her family and friends. Her legacy is one of compassion, joy, and strength. May her memory be a blessing, and may we all carry forward the kindness and love she so freely gave.
A celebration of Sue's life will be held Saturday, August 2nd at 11 am in the Marler Chapel, Crosspoint Church, Niceville, FL.

Sue will be missed by her friends and family
A long time ago as young officers we bought new houses next to each other in Niceville and remained close neighbors until we were transferred away three years later. Over the years Holly and sue talked by phone once or twice a year and we stopped to see them and then later with Sue whenever we got to Florida.
