Marva Brennan Obituary

Marva Anne Brennan, passed away peacefully with family at her side on Monday, July 28, 2025, at the age of 95. A funeral service to honor and celebrate her life will be held at 12:00 PM on Saturday, August 2, 2025 at Watkins Brothers Funeral Homes, 203 E. First North St., Laingsburg, MI 48848. The family will receive friends beginning at 11:00 AM until the time of service. Interment will be held at Richfield Union Cemetery, Davison.

Born on June 30, 1930, in Flint, Michigan, Marva's early years were a foundation of community and family values that she carried throughout her life. Growing up in Flint and later Fenton, Marva's childhood was one of quiet grace and learning. She was raised in a close-knit family alongside her beloved brother, Bill. Her father, Irving, a dedicated draftsman/engineer, instilled in her a sense of diligence that she applied to every aspect of her life. Marva's education was a testament to her passion for growth and beauty, which led her to further her education in floriculture at Michigan State University, earning an associates degree. This education paved the way for her career as a floral designer, a role in which she blossomed, sharing her love for nature's aesthetics with those around her.

Marva's heart found its match in Ed Brennan, whom she met on a quintessential double blind date in 1951. They married on September 26, 1953, at the First Presbyterian Church in Fenton, and began a life filled with joy, challenges, and triumphs. The couple settled in Lansing, Michigan, where they raised five wonderful children. Marva's role as a mother was her most cherished; she was the heart of the home, ensuring that love, education, and faith were the cornerstones of her family's life.

After dedicating years to her family, Marva returned to the workforce as a teaching assistant with the Lansing Public School System. There, she touched the lives of countless students, helping them navigate the complexities of mathematics and supporting children with special needs with the same love and patience she gave her own children.

Marva's later years were spent in the serenity of Lake Victoria, where she and Ed built a beautiful retirement home. It was there that she continued to cultivate her love for community service through the Lionesses Club. Her life was a true reflection of the words that best described her: loving, faith-filled, and selfless.

Marva's legacy is a tapestry woven with the lives of her children, Ken (Jan Grant), Jeff (Tonya Wilbert), Kirk (Deena Kistka), Amy, and Scott (Melissa Adams); her adored grandchildren, Sarah, Jeffrey, Chad, Hunter, Colton, Grason, Tyler, and Douglas; and 6 great-grandchildren, whom she loved with an immeasurable depth. Marva now joins her husband, Ed, and brother, Irving Negus Jr., in eternal rest.
