Marvin Morris Sam, 90, of McAlester, Oklahoma passed away on Wednesday, August 13, 2025 at his home.

The family will greet friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, August 18, 2025 at the Chaney Harkins Funeral Home Chapel in McAlester.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 19, 2025 at the Chaney Harkins Funeral Home Chapel with Mr. Morris Sam officiating. The burial will follow at South Rock Creek Cemetery, south of Red Oak, Oklahoma.

Pallbearers will be Randall Sam, Anthony Sam, Richard Sam, Jeffrey Sam, Mark Sam, and Matthew Sam.

Honorary pallbearers will be Michael Sam, Rick Battiest, Clifford Sam, Jr., Jonathan Sam, Harold Meashintubby, Douglas Sam, Virgil Sam, Walter Jones, Ronnie Woody, and Merle Sam.

Marvin, affectionately known by all as Uncle Marv, was born on January 27, 1935 in Summerfield, Oklahoma to James Sam and Nellie (Ripley) Sam.

Marvin was a member of the Oklahoma National Guard, attended college at Haskell Indian Nations University, where he ran track with Billy Mills. Marvin worked as a brick layer in McAlester, Oklahoma City and Dallas, Texas areas.

Uncle Marv will be remembered as a quiet man, enjoyed watching OU football, and spending time with his family, only if OU was NOT playing! He was also an avid pool player.

He is survived by his brother, Virgil Sam of Albion, Oklahoma; and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins, and other family members and friends.

Marvin is preceded in death by his parents: James Sam and Nellie (Ripley) Sam; brothers: Clifford, Cornelius, Louie, Jimmy, and Mario Sam; nieces: Pamela Sam, Theresa Sam, and Esther Gill; and nephews: Sonny Sam, and Carlos Sam.
