Mary Aguera Obituary

She was the light of our lives, Mary Clare Aguera, (née Armstrong) transitioned peacefully at home on 8/14/2017 in Truckee, CA at the age of 77.
Clare is survived by her husband of 59 years, Joe R. Aguera; children, Joe C. Aguera, Teri Aguera-Fields (Ken Fields), Steve Aguera, (Anthony DeMasi); grandchildren, Nathan Aguera, Carly Fields, Sam Fields, Austin Aguera; siblings, Sue Yurosek of Newhall, CA, Joan Mann (Budd) of Reno, NV John Armstrong (Bev) of Meadow Vista, CA, Paul Armstrong (Hilary) of Applegate, CA, Jean Armstrong of Truckee, CA, Francis and Marvin Galarza of Atlanta, GA. She is also survived by many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, Cyril and Madeline Armstrong; brothers, Cyril Armstrong, Mike Yurosek, and Joe Armstrong; parents Jose and Matilda Aguera; sisters, Prudie Hayes, and Carmen Aguera.
Mary Clare was born on August 15, 1939 in Detroit, MI to Cyril and Madeline Armstrong. She graduated from Garden Grove High School in 1957. She married Joseph Rodger Aguera, her high school sweetheart in 1957. After moving to Truckee, CA, Joe and Clare owned and operated the Truckee-Tahoe Mortuary for thirty-nine years, retiring in 2004. Clare also worked for Tahoe-Forest Hospital as a Ward Clerk. The couple raised three children.
Mary Clare was very active in the Truckee Community. It was her nature to help others.
After retiring from the mortuary business, she served on the Cemetery Board for the past fourteen years. She was the "glue and rock" of her family and many circles of friends. Everyone loved her because of her exceptional, kind, remarkable, feisty personality. She "connected" with people on a rare, exquisite level. She was the "go to" person for her family and friends.
A funeral mass is scheduled for Monday, August 21 at Assumption Catholic Church, 10930 Alder Drive, Truckee, CA 96161 at 11:00 am. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Clare's life. The family would like to thank Tahoe-Forest Hospital, Gene Upshaw Cancer Center, and Tahoe-Forest Hospice, especially Caitlyn, Alaina, and Heidi, for their professionalism, dedication, and kind, gentle care.
