Mary Jo Alatorre, 89 passed away Thursday, June 19th in a local hospital. She was born in Pocohontas, Arkansas and moved to Benicia as a child. She worked in the service industry for over 45 years. Volunteered and participated in the local special Olympics helping special needs children in sports.
Mary Jo attended local schools and was an accomplished athlete, she played tennis in school. Being a sport enthusiast and a mother of 5 children, 3 boys, she coached little league and umpired. She enjoyed going to see live professional basketball, tennis, football and baseball games. She loved all sports, enjoyed playing tennis and pitching softball. She was also an accomplished ballroom dancer, avid Bingo player and reader.
She is survived by her children Teresa Alatorre, Tim Alatorre, Daneen Diaz and Derek (Yelena) Diaz; her brother Jim (Ramona) Higginbotham and her grandchildren Bree, Landon, Joshua & Rafael. She was preceded in death by her son Jerry Alatorre, brother Jerry Higginbotham and sisters Paullette Refredi and Yvonne Doss.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m., Monday, June 30th at Passalacqua Funeral Chapel. Burial will be private.
