Mary Elizabeth Beard, age 88, passed away Monday June 30, 2025, surrounded by family.
Mary was born September 23rd, 1936, to Samuel Alexander and Elizabeth Clementine Hughes of New Mexico. She was raised in Dog Canyon, New Mexico, where she loved showing her prize winning 4H Hereford bulls. Mary attended a small schoolhouse there in El Paso gap in her early years.
In 1957, Mary graduated High School in Artesia, New Mexico. That was where she married Odes H. Beard on May 27th, 1957. in 1965 they moved to Missouri and ran a dairy farm. Mary was a homemaker and enjoyed gardening and traveling (even going to Israel twice). Mary worked at Barton County Memorial Hospital for 27 years as a CNA before retiring and enjoying her life on the farm. She loved ice cream and playing dominos. Mary was loved by so many and will be missed dearly.
Mary is survived by her five children, Mark (Marlene) Beard of Lockwood, MO., Travis Beard of Dog Canyon, NM., Clay Beard of Golden City, MO., Shelby (Alicia) Beard of Lamar, MO., and Christeen Beard of Lamar, MO., three grandchildren, Phallin Jennings of Colorado, Nicholas Beard of Lockwood, MO., and Paige (Joshua) Graves of Lockwood, MO., and six great grandchildren, as well as countless cousins, nieces and nephews.
Mary is proceeded in death by her parents Samuel and Clementine Hughes, her husband Odes Beard, and all her siblings, Sammy (Ima Dale) Hughes, Woody (Charlsie) Hughes and Marion (Verna) Hughes of New Mexico, and one great grandchild, Hallie Beard of Lockwood, MO.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 5, 2025, at the funeral home.
Contributions are suggested and made payable to Daniel Funeral Home for Funeral Expenses.
