Mary Lee (Sasser) Britt, 100, passed away Tuesday, June 10, 2025, in Fossil, Oregon. Born in Fossil October 23, 1924 to Scott and Lilly Sasser, Mary Lee was a lifelong Oregon resident and member of Fossil Baptist Church.
Growing up, Mary Lee enjoyed attending church with her family, singing in the choir and helping her father, who was Wheeler County Clerk for more than 50 years. She had a natural ability for clerical work and numbers and looked forward to assisting her father with typing projects.
After high school, Mary Lee attended Linfield College in McMinnville, where she advanced her clerical skills and enjoyed playing in ladies intramural basketball. She returned home to take a position as a clerk at Kinzua Lumber, and married Robert (Bob) Britt on December 25, 1944 while he was home on Christmas leave from the Navy. Eventually they moved to Portland, where Mary Lee worked as a payroll clerk for John Deere for 20 years before retiring in 1982 and returning to Eastern Oregon. Bob and Mary Lee celebrated 70 years together in 2014. They enjoyed a full and rewarding life together, centered on love of their family and faith in God.
Mary Lee is survived by sister Lillian Reedze, daughter Kathy Gibson and husband Dave; son Paul Britt and wife Carleana; son Phil Britt and wife Teri; five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren.
Funeral service will be held Saturday, June 28, 2025 at 1PM at Fossil Baptist Church, with graveside service to follow at Fossil I.O.O.F. Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Fossil Baptist Church, PO Box 365, Fossil, Oregon 97830.
