On Christmas Day, December 25, 2024, we said goodbye to a wonderful, hardworking lady who spent her life taking care of her family and friends, always putting them before herself.
Mary Jo Carver was born April 24, 1939, in Haywood County and was one of 17 children born to the late Thomas Nelson Rhodes and the late Dollie Hawkins Rhodes.
All of her life was spent working beside her late husband, William Carver, for over 52 years. Together they built several businesses. Mary spent many hours and days reading her Bible and studying God's word. She loved to be outdoors, being around all types of animals, raising her own vegetables to can, cattle for beef, and chickens for eggs. There wasn't anything she could not do. Canning, cooking, baking, and creating new recipes for her family to eat and enjoy. Mary loved her flowers and all types of her fruit trees. She loved quilting, sewing, working on puzzles, and had the ability to do anything she set her mind to. She was a loving, caring, and very special person. Everyone she met was a friend. She will be deeply missed.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Howard Carver, who passed away in 2011; sisters, Joyce Williams, Polly (Blanch) Church, Geraldine Rhodes, Elsie May Rhodes, and Vena McCall; brothers, Burton, James, Kirk, Marcell, Gerald, Frank, David, George and Thomas Dewitt Rhodes.
Left to cherish her memory are her son, Larry Carver (Resa); granddaughter, Jennifer Carver Fleming (Richard); great-grandsons, Shaedan Fleming and Ricky Burton; her sisters, Frances Schuff of Ohio and Juanita Stines of Canton and many nieces and nephews.
To honor her request no formal services will be held.
Memorials may be made in Mary's memory to Memory Care Haywood County Resource Center, 81 Elmwood Way, Waynesville, NC 28785.
