Mary Christensen Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 18, 2025.
Christensen Mary Lavern Christensen passed away peacefully on July 10, 2025, in Gresham, Oregon at the age of 95.

Mary was born in Earlimart, California on October 12, 1929, to Homer and Louise Perry, and her siblings included younger sisters, Doris Harris and Gladys Springfield, and half-brother Russell Alvin Powell. Mary spent her early years in Ft. Bidwell, California with her mother and stepfather Russell Powell. She later moved to Lakeview, Oregon where she attended Lakeview High School and graduated in 1948.

While working as a cashier at the Maris and Alger Theatre, Mary met the love of her life, Noris "Hunk" Christensen, and they were married in Lakeview on September 30, 1950. Mary remained in Lakeview while Hunk served two years in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Afterwards, Mary and Hunk remained life-long Lakeview residents where they raised two children, Scott Christensen and LeAnn Dooley.

Mary had many friends in the community and was an active member of the Lakeview First Baptist Church, where she supported its charitable works. She was also an avid reader throughout her life. She lived in the family home until 2018, when she moved to the Lake County Assisted Living Center. Upon its closing in 2023, Mary made her final move to Gresham, Oregon.

Mary had a wonderful life and will be missed by her family and friends. A great wife, mother, and friend, she was ready to meet her Savior and now rests in eternal peace.

Mary is survived by son Scott (Lynda) Christensen, daughter LeAnn (Tim) Dooley, grandchildren Carolyn (Jeff) Scherler, Andrea (Ryan Brown) Dooley, Courtney (Kerry) Kulp, Ryan (Michele) Christensen, and great-grandchildren Lily Scherler and Tim Scherler. Mary was preceded in death by her husband, parents and siblings.
