Mary Edna Darby passed away peacefully on July 3, 2025, in Federal Way, Washington, surrounded by her children and friends. Born on October 1, 1947, in Maryland, Mary spent her life traveling across the United States, living in many places before settling in Washington, where she met the love of her life, Eric Darby.
Mary dedicated her career to helping others, working for the Seattle Indian Health Board treatment facility until her retirement. She then lovingly devoted her time to caring for her husband during his illness-a reflection of the deep compassion that defined her life.
Mary's greatest joy came from being with her family. She is survived by her daughters, Patricia Martin-Stockwell and Melissa Conlon; and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Tina Martin, Liam Conlon, and Sage and Violet Paz. Family was her heart and soul. She loved to crochet, and nothing made her happier than feeding the people she loved-whether it was a simple meal or a grand feast, everyone left her table full and cared for.
Mary never met a stranger-only friends she hadn't gotten to know yet. Her kindness, humor, and spicy spirit left a lasting impression on everyone who crossed her path. She was strong, sweet, and wonderfully sassy, making friends from all walks of life and keeping them for a lifetime.
A memorial potluck to celebrate Mary's life will be held on Saturday, August 16, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Mitchell Place, 1001 S. 336th Street, Federal Way, Washington 98003. Please bring a dish that reminds you of Mary, along with any funny stories or photos you'd like to share-no matter how embarrassing, she would've loved the laughter.
RSVP to Melissa at 503-953-2136.
Let's send her off the way she would have wanted-with love, laughter, and full bellies.
