Mary (Aggie) Gile
02/21/1935 – 07/22/2025
Mary passed away peacefully on the morning of July 22, 2025, with her
daughter and granddaughter by her side.
Preceded in death by her husband Elwood Gile and son Kenneth Gile.
Mary was the last of five siblings: Guadelupe Miranda, Patsy Ward,
Celistina Chase, and Adeline Pino. She was raised by Luisita Maestas,
her maternal grandmother. Her parents were James Miranda and
Eleanore Maestas.
She is survived by her daughter Sandra Gile-Nolan, sons Albert Gile and
Leroy Gile, and half-sisters Rosina Mortensen and Antonia Salazar.
Grandchildren: Allen Vargas, Elisha Vargas, James Gile, Matlock Gile,
Michael Gile, Cameron Gile, Deanna Gile-Bradshaw, Sara Gile, Amber
Gile-Browing, Samantha Gile-Harvey, Dale Gile and JD Gile. She also
leaves behind 11 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, and
many nieces and nephews.
Mary spent a lifetime caring for others. As a child, she helped care for her
siblings. Later, she became a mother and raised four children. She also
cared for her grandmother-whom she called "Mom"-as well as her
mother-in-law. It seems fitting that her profession of choice was Certified
Nursing Assistant, working in the local hospital and nursing home. She
later earned a degree as an Emergency Medical Technician and worked
alongside her son Ken Gile at the Huerfano Ambulance Service.
Her expertise was sought after on many Kingdom Hall builds for the
Jehovah's Witnesses, as well as on homes built for congregation
members.
Mary's last employment was with the adult handicap facility for the
Council of Government. Her duties included picking up residents from
their homes in the morning and taking them to the shop, as she fondly
referred to the facility. She was also in charge of supervising one or more
mentally challenged adults while delivering Meals on Wheels to the town
and surrounding areas for the elderly. No matter the weather, Mom was
there with their meals.
When Mary wasn't working, she was a devout Jehovah's Witness,
dedicating her time to her ministry. Mary valued her family, friends, and
spiritual family.
Mary loved to forage our countryside for the bounty of food our mountains provide. Some of my fondest memories were being alongside my mother and father picking mushrooms, pinon, asparagus, or medicinal plants. Mom loved canning food for her family- once again, caring for us. We always had wonderful jams, fruits, and vegetables on hand for a quick meal. She was proud to whip up delicious meal when unexpected company stopped by or make a quick pie as a treat for children on cold winter day.
She loved the mountains. In her last years, she enjoyed day rides to the mountains, sitting by the lake and having lunch---always saying, lets go pick mushrooms," or "It looks like we'll have pinon this year".
Look to the Mountains and think of Mom.
