August 18, 1936 – June 29, 2025
Monterey, California
Our sweet mother, Mary Hoang, passed away peacefully with her son John, daughters Hally and Annie, and her granddaughter Grace by her side.
We, along with her lifelong friends, have been blessed by her unwavering love, devotion, generosity, and thoughtfulness. Mary now joins her beloved husband of 63 years, Huan, on the final journey of an extraordinary life that began in Vietnam. She fled the war with her family as a young woman, ultimately finding a home in the United States, where she devoted herself to helping refugees. Her remarkable career spanned both teaching and cooking -- she had a magical way of bringing family and friends together, nurturing countless lives with her warmth and knowledge.
Mary will be deeply missed by her brother's wife Hoa; her brother Hoan and his wife Huong; brother-in-law Van; sisters-in-law Son, Phung, and Phuong; son John and wife Mary; daughter Hally; daughter Annie and husband Neil; her grandchildren John Jr. and his wife Kalli, Grace and her husband Charles, Cassady, and Iris; and her many nieces and nephews in both the United States and Vietnam.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 16, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, at Mission Mortuary – Seaside (1915 Ord Grove Ave, Seaside, CA 93955), followed by a memorial service from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM. A reception will directly follow, with details to be communicated at the service.
A Funeral Mass will take place on Thursday, July 17, at 11:00 AM at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Seaside (1475 La Salle Ave, Seaside, CA 93955).
As you wish, donations may be made to VNA Hospice of the Central Coast, whose compassionate care meant so much to Mary and our family.
