In Loving Memory of Mary Lee Mason Abshier (1939–2025)
Mary Lee Mason Abshier, a woman of boundless love, quiet strength, and deep faith, passed away peacefully on May 31, 2025, at the age of 86 and is now reunited with the love of her life, Ben J. Abshier. Her presence was a gift to all who knew her, and her legacy will continue to blossom in the lives she touched.
Born in 1939, Mary Lee attended Sterling High School in Baytown, Texas, during her youth. She lived a life rich with purpose and heart, serving as a devoted wife, nurturing mother, treasured grandmother, and loyal friend. Through every season of life, Mary Lee lived with grace-always putting others first and giving more than she took.
She had a gentle spirit and a smile that could calm any storm. She found joy in the simple things. Her home was a haven of warmth, where family traditions were cherished and laughter echoed through the halls.
Mary Lee was deeply committed to her community and faith. She loved to volunteer, dedicating her time to mission work, the Historical Society, and the local library. She had a passion for genealogy, often researching family histories, and enjoyed crafting-creating bookmarks and bracelets for the many people that she met through her mission work in Mexico. A devout member of First Baptist Church of Groveton, Mary Lee served faithfully and was instrumental in helping within the church's hospitality program until her health would no longer allow. Her walk with the Lord was evident in the way she lived-with humility, compassion, and unwavering trust in God. She taught her children and grandchildren the importance of kindness, integrity, and prayer-not just in words, but through her daily example.
She is preceded in death by her beloved husband of fifty-eight years, Benjamin "Ben" J. Abshier; her father, Frank Mason; and her mother, Leona Dunaway Mason.
Left to cherish her memory are her children: daughter, Vicki Kessinger of
Groveton, TX; daughter, Susie Eastepp and husband, Kevin of Livingston, TX; son, Benny Abshier and wife, Pam of Woodlake, TX; son, Frank Abshier and wife, Julie of Woodlake, TX; and daughter, Kimberly Webel and husband, Ricky of Round Rock, TX. She is also survived by her special bonus daughter, Paola Mazzaferro Gilmet Kratz of Brazil, an exchange student who blessed the family immensely; her sister, Lois Bradshaw Malone of Deer Park, TX; twelve grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and a host of extended family and dear friends who will forever remember her love, her wisdom, and her legacy.
The family will receive visitors on Thursday evening, June 5, 2025, at Groveton Funeral Home from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M.
A celebration of Mary Lee's life will be held on Friday, June 6, 2025, beginning at 10:00 A.M., at First Baptist Church of Groveton, with Bro. Matt Sharrock officiating. Burial services will follow at 3:00 P.M. at Abshier Family Cemetery in Devers, TX.
Pallbearers: Jon Abshier, Bobby Jones, Guy Hughes, Brandon Owens, Josh Crotts, Johnny Rogers, and Beau Conn.
Honorary Pallbearers: Kaden Webel, Richard Davidson, Steven Kessinger, and Jason Reardon.
Though she has gone home, Mary Lee's spirit remains with us-in every bloom she once planted, in every recipe passed down, in every bookmark lovingly crafted, and in every heart she ever touched.
