Born on August 31, 1942, in Haleyville, AL, she was the daughter of the late Winton Worthy Plunkett and Aileen Keeton Plunkett. Mary was a dedicated member of her community, known for her support of Lake County. She was the owner of The Drifters Video Store, worked as a factory worker, and was a devoted homemaker. In 2000, she ran for Lake County Sheriff, showcasing her commitment to public service. She loved to go shopping and sewing.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 24, 2025 in the Tiptonville Chapel of Dyersburg Funeral Home with Rev. Chip Davis officiating. Burial will be in New Haven Cemetery.
The family will receive visitors from 4-7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 23, 2025 at Dyersburg Funeral Home Tiptonville Chapel.
Survivors include her two daughters, Jerrie Jeanice Moseley of Dresden, TN and Melissa Darlene Matheny of Tiptonville, TN; and two grandchildren, Victoria Izabella Matheny and Izaiah Thomas Matheny.
In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Thomas Matheny; a son, David Alan Matheny; and a brother, Jessie Dyer Plunkett.
Serving as pallbearers will be Reid Yates, Shane Ervin, Rodney Marvin, George Robert Vaughn, John Riley and Izaiah Matheny.
