Mary Jean Nash Record, 93 of Martinsville, gained eternal rest on Monday, July 14, 2025, at Worthington Place in Camby. Her life began Thursday, October 15, 1931, in St. Louis, Missouri when she was born to the late Edwin Henry and Sudie (Wilson) Frohbieter.
Mary grew up in Evansville, Indiana, where she graduated from Central High School with the class of 1949. She continued her education at The University of Evansville earning her Bachelor of Arts in Music Education in 1953. Later that year, Mary married Jack "Jackie" Nash on August 30th. Mary and Jack moved to Martinsville in 1960, where they raised their four children and spent 35 years together before his passing on February 2nd, 1989.
From a young age, Mary had a strong passion for music. At the age of 9, she began playing the clarinet, something she enjoyed for many years. Mary enjoyed sharing her talent with children and began giving lessons to her college professor's children while obtaining her undergrad in Evansville. Upon graduation, she began teaching kindergarten, then later 2nd grade, before moving to Martinsville. She then taught 4th grade for 3 years at Poston Road Elementary before she decided to further her education. In 1963, Mary went back to school at Indiana University and received her Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education and Master of Music in Music Education. With this degree, she taught music for 24 years at Smith & North Elementary schools, and 1 year at South Elementary School before retiring in 1991.
Two years after retirement, Mary married William "Bill" Record Jr. on July 31, 1993. Mary and Bill lived in Martinsville and were married for 27 years before his passing on June 6, 2021.
Aside from music, Mary had a love for many other things. She enjoyed playing bridge or euchre, gardening and crafts, such as tole painting. Mary relished travelling, having traveled to all 50 states, as well as camping.
Mary was a loyal member of First Methodist Church in Martinsville since 1960. She was also a member of the Epsilon Chapter of Kappa Kappa Sigma, Past President of the Martinsville Women's Club, member of the Kensington Club, Past President of the Morgan County Retired Teacher's Association, member of the Martinsville, Bloomington and Brown County Community Bands and was a founding member of the Martinsville Community Band. At First Methodist, Mary was a 10-year member of the Bell Choir and Church Orchestra. After retiring, Mary volunteered at Martinsville High School and East Middle School teaching music.
Mary's legacy will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by her family and friends including her only son, Keith Alan Nash (Maria) of South Carolina; daughters, Lynne Cox (John) and Kimberly "Kimmie" Mendenhall both of Martinsville; brother, Jack Frohbieter (Cathy) of Pennsylvania; sister, Joann Mueller of Evansville, Indiana; grandchildren, Mary Lynne Hayes, Mark Mendenhall, Suzanne and Nathan Cox, and Jack, Marcia, Travis and Joshua Nash; and great grandchildren, Lorelai Jane Cox, Rebecca Ward, and Payton, Mason and Logan Brewer and Abbigail, Brooklyn and DJ Nash.
Along with her parents and both husbands, Mary was preceded in death by her daughter, Deborah Nash; son-in-law, David Mendenhall; brothers, Edwin Frohbieter Jr. and Gene Frohbieter; grandchild, Krystofer Nash and great grandchild Sammy Jo Mendenhall.
Friends and family are invited to visit on Sunday, July 20th, 2025, from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Neal & Summers Funeral and Cremation Center in Martinsville and Monday, July 21st from 9:00 am until service time at First Methodist Church, 3150 Myra Lane,
Martinsville, Indiana. A service celebrating Mary's life will begin at 10:00 am Monday at the church. She will be laid to rest in Nebo Memorial Park Cemetery in Martinsville at 1:00 pm Monday following a meal provided by the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Mary's memory to the Morgan County Community Band or the First Methodist Church Music Department. Contributions envelopes will be provided at the funeral home during services.
