Mary Peters, age 72, of Rose, Oklahoma, went to her heavenly home on Monday, August 11, 2025, in Rose, Oklahoma. She was born on September 27,1952 in Tahlequah, OK to her parents Tom Peters and Lillian Mouse-Peters.

Mary was a graduate of Kansas High School, Kansas, OK. She continued her education at the University of Oklahoma with a bachelor's degree, then completed her master's degree at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences. Mary worked with Cherokee Nation for 40 years as their Health Educator and Data Analyst for Diabetes Program until her retirement almost two years ago. Mary was a first language Cherokee speaker, fluent in Cherokee. She also taught Cherokee class. She loved quilting and going to quilt shows. She loved working at the Cherokee National Holiday Quilt Shows. Mary was a runner and member of the Wings program for many years. She loved her family and friends dearly. She was very generous and would help anyone who asked for help, sometimes driving quite a distance at night. Mary had many friends and their kids called her "Aunt Mary". Mary loved gospel songs and sang for the Lord. She served as Secretary & Treasurer for Elm Prairie Baptist Church in Rose, OK where she was a member. She also served as a Sunday School Teacher too. She swept and cleaned the church for many years, until she was unable to do so. She was a child of God. She accepted Jesus at a young age and walked with the Lord every moment of the day. Mary will be missed dearly by her family and friends.

Mary is preceded in death by her grandparents, Joe Peters and Lila (Galcatcher) Peters, Lewis Mouse and Nancy (Ross) Mouse; her parents, Tom Peters and Lillian (Mouse) Peters; uncles, Jackson Galcatcher, Jefferson Mouse, John Mouse, Albert Mouse and Wyley Mouse; her baby brother, Joseph (Joey) Peters.

Mary is survived by her brother, Thomas Peters of Park Hill, OK; 2 sisters, Martha Peters and Irene Peters of Leach, OK; nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends.

Mary's Celebration of Life Family Visitation to greet friends will be held on Thursday, August 14, 2025 from 6:00-8:00pm at Lawson's Funeral Homes & Cremation Services Chapel, 311 W. Gray St., Jay, OK 74346.

Mary's Celebration of Life Funeral Service will be held on Friday, 11:00am, August 15, 2025 at Elm Prairie Baptist Church, 55590 S. 540 Rd., Rose, OK 74364 with Reverend Joe Christie officiating. Followed by Mary's funeral procession to Elm Cemetery, Rose, OK.

Mary's burial will be held at Elm Cemetery, Rose, OK.

Arrangements are entrusted to Lawson's Funeral Homes & Cremation Services, 311 W. Gray St., Jay, OK 74346 with Shaunda J. Lawson, 3rd Generation Owner/Funeral Director and Staff.
