In loving memory of Mary Ellen Pinkston, 92, a beloved resident of
Elk City, Oklahoma. Surrounded by her loving family, she peacefully began her final journey to the golden streets of Heaven on Friday, July 25, 2025.
Mary was born on May 18, 1933, in Weatherford, Oklahoma, to Leonard Raymond and Ola Mae (Driskell) Quattlebaum. She graduated from Hammon High School in Hammon, Oklahoma, in 1951, where she proudly played forward on the girls' basketball team and served as her senior class secretary and treasurer-honors she held with pride. She later attended Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford, Oklahoma.
Mary was married to Melvin Pinkston, and together they shared thirty-two years. From this union, two children were born, Tonya and Todd.
Mary worked as a bookkeeper for ten years at the Elk City Sale Barn. She later joined the Elk City Daily Newspaper, where she was employed for three years. She also owned and operated M&P Liquor Store for thirty-eight years.
She had a deep and personal relationship with God and was a devoted member of Grandview Church in Elk City. Mary was an amazing seamstress, known for her beautiful, hand-sewn creations and thoughtful gifts. She enjoyed playing Bunko and Farkle with the church ladies. Mary loved traveling especially trips to Las Vegas, playing bingo, cheering for the NFL and OU Football, and was a loyal Thunder Basketball fan. She treasured spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, attending their childhood events, and celebrating family member milestones. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, August 1, 2025, at Grandview Church in
Elk City, Oklahoma, with Wayne Wilson officiating. Interment will follow at New Hermon Cemetery in
Leedey, Oklahoma. Services have been entrusted to the care of Richard and Tammy Dugger and staff of Martin-Dugger Funeral Home in
Elk City, Oklahoma.
Cherishing her memory are her children: Tonya Walker and her husband, Purcy Dale, of Elk City; and Todd Pinkston and his wife, Dana, of Canadian, Texas.
Her grandchildren: Brandon Walker of Plano, Texas; Crystal Burton and her husband, Russell, of Butler, Oklahoma; Candace Jones and her husband, Joe, of Rush Springs, Oklahoma; Ryan Pinkston of Canyon, Texas. Her six great-grandchildren: Lauren Walker, Blake Walker-both of Plano, Texas; Caylin Burton and Reece Burton-both of Butler, Oklahoma; Jace Jones and his wife, Sydney, of Rush Springs, Oklahoma; and Cade Jones of Rush Springs.
She is also survived by many other relatives and friends.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Leonard Raymond and Ola Mae Quattlebaum.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Bell Avenue Nursing Home and Comforting Hands Hospice for the exceptional care they provided to Mary.
