Mary Victoria Gretz-Savarino, 81, of Somerset, Indiana passed away at 1:10 p.m. on Friday, October 17, 2025, at Marion General Hospital in Marion, Indiana. She was born to Paul Anthony and Mary (Buccilli) Gretz on November 17, 1943, in Marion, Indiana.
Mary graduated from Marion High School and married Joseph Savarino on October 26, 1960. He passed away on December 18, 2022. Mary was a member of Saint Bernard Catholic Church in Wabash, Indiana and was a Carmelite through St. Paul Catholic Parish in Marion, Indiana. She was a homemaker and loved to support her family. She was a patient, loving woman that enjoyed nature and reading. Mary loved learning about different religions and helped many children with their learning also. Above all, Mary was very family oriented and was the Matriarch of her family.
Mary is survived by three daughters, Vicki (James) Savarino-Tarpley of Florida, Diana (Phillip) Savarino-Sullivan of Converse, Indiana, and Consetta (Jeffery) Savarino-Conn of Somerset, Indiana; four grandsons, Joseph Savarino, Samuel (Dana) Savarino, Brandon Wensley, and Patrick (Amanda) Wensley; two great-grandchildren, Sadie Opal and Elsie Nan; and one brother, Paul Anthony "Pete" Gretz of Marion, Indiana. She is proceeded in death by her parents, her husband, one son, Joseph S. Savarino Jr., and one brother, John Gretz.
A Funeral Mass with Father Jay Horning officiating, for Mary and Joseph, will be announced at a later date.
Memorial contributions can be directed to Riley Children's Hospital, 705 Riley Hospital Drive, Indianapolis, Indiana 46202.
