Mary Turner Obituary

Mary Irene Turner, 103, passed away Tuesday, July 29, 2025, in Coppell, TX. She was born April 22, 1922, to Andrew and Philomena (Bauer) Tischler in Celina, TX. She married John Turner in May 1942 in Sherman, TX. Being one of the oldest of 9 children, and after losing her mother in childbirth, Mary bravely stepped up to help keep the family together. After marrying her husband John in 1942, she was left alone with her newborn son, Charles. For two years while John served overseas in WWII, her sister Julia and husband JW opened their home, and Mary stayed with them for those years. Mary's journey took her through Dallas, then Carrollton, Cedar Creek, and finally, Tioga. She was a faithful church lady. She loved the farm-life from her childhood, which continued into retirement. Mary was famous for the fried peach pies she made from peaches in her little orchard. Mary excelled with her sewing machine and was an expert painter. She loved tending to her rental properties and even stepped in to run a donut shop for an ailing owner. Mary is survived by her daughter, Mary Anne Turner of Silverado, CA; three grandchildren, Christie Gamel, Maureen Gamel, and Justin Gamel; two great-grandchildren, Daniel and Mitchell Gamel; and three sisters, Anita Bass and Doris Faulk both of Collinsville, TX, and Loretta Sherrick of Glen Rose, TX. She is preceded in death by her husband, John; parents, Andrew and Philomena; son, Charles Turner; granddaughter, Angela Gamel; brother, Andrew Tischler; and four sisters, Julia Shaw, Madeline "Peppy" Stone, Francis Gregg, and Eloise Riley. Mary's work ethic and thrift are legendary, but also her quick smile and laughter. She was devoted to living wholesome and faithfully, and it carried her throughout her life. Visitation is Saturday, August 2, 2025, at Slay Memorial Funeral Chapel in Aubrey, TX at 10:00AM with a service to follow at 11:00AM. Interment will be at Tioga Cemetery, in Tioga, TX.
