Mason Fontenot was born on September 5, 1924, and passed away on July 7, 2025, at the age of 100.
Mason served in the Navy during World War II and was a proud veteran. He was a pillar of his community, always ready with a smile over coffee at the pharmacy or sharing stories with friends at the sale barn. He took pride in growing and selling fresh fruits and vegetables and was known for his homemade jellies, cakes, and pies that brought folks together. His warmth and hard work will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his children, Brenda Horner, Cynthia Istre & husband, Rudy, and Dell Tullier & husband, Jay; grandchildren, Dawn Harrill & husband, Gary, Laura David & husband, Joseph, Jeff Horner & wife, Theresa, Craig Istre & wife, Kara, Ramie Horner, Jana Trouth & husband, Kevin, Dustin Shidler, Micah Deshotel & wife, Ashley, Courtney Dupuis, Amanda Deshotel, and Kent Fontenot, Jr. & wife, Kaylin; many great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; siblings, Ermin Fontenot & wife, Shirley and Norman "Blackie" Fontenot.
He is preceded in passing by his wife, Laura Mae Durio Fontenot; parents, David & Daisey Fontenot; son, Kent Fontenot, Sr.; son-in-law, Jimmy Horner; great grandson, Adam Reed Istre; siblings, Elliot Fontenot, Ella Fontenot Pitre, Dudley Fontenot, and Franklin Fontenot.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m., Thursday, July 10, 2025, in the Reed Chapel at Riley Smith & Sons, 315 N 14th Street, Kinder, Louisiana. Visitation will continue Friday, July 11, 2025 from 8:30 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 10:00 a.m., at Kingsfarm United Pentecostal Church, 519 Jessie Johnson, Kinder, Louisiana. Rev. Steve Haymon will be officiating. Interment will follow at Jessie Johnson Cemetery.
The family has requested that you wear your red, white, and blue in honor of Mr. Mason.
