Matilde Hernandez Obituary
Matilde R. Hernandez, 86 of Elgin, TX passed away peacefully May 17, 2025, in Elgin, TX, surrounded by her loving family by her side.
Born March 14, 1939, to Ignacio and Olivia Rangel. Married to the love of her life Pete Hernandez, for 69 years. Matilde proudly gave 25 years of service to the University of Texas. Matilde enjoyed family gatherings, cooking, shopping with daughters, going to dances with her husband and road trips to go gambling at Winstar Casino and spending time with her sisters.
A special thank you to WellMed of Elgin, Teresa TJ Allen and staff, St. David's Hospice, Nurse Patsy Pate, for providing exceptional care and comfort.
Survived by her sisters Eloise Gonzalez and Sally Torres, sons Arturo Hernandez (Janie), Wally Hernandez (Marcaria), and Gilbert Hernandez (Lupe) and daughters Rosemary Hadi (Habib), Debbie Maldonado (Roy) and bonus daughter DeAnna Ervin. Grandchildren Amy Vasquez, Shahram Hadi, Arthur Hernandez Jr (Crystal), Andrew Hernandez (Krystal), Amanda Hernandez, Laura Gutierrez (Phillip), Roy Anthony Maldonado Jr, Daniella Maldonado, Gabriella Hernandez, Christian Hernandez and Angelica Hernandez, 14 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren. Predeceased by parents Ignacio and Olivia Rangel and brother Martin Rangel.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 - 8:00PM with recitation of the Holy Rosary beginning at 7:00PM on Thursday, May 22, 2025, at Providence-Jones Family Funeral Home, 604 N Hwy 95, Elgin, TX 78621 .
Mass of Christian burial will begin at 2:30PM on Friday, May 23, 2025, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 302 W 11th St, Elgin, TX 78621. Interment will follow immediately at Elgin Latin Cemetery with a reception to follow.
