Mathew Lachney Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Sebrell Funeral Home on Feb. 21, 2026.
Mathew Percy James Lachney, a cherished son, brother, and companion, passed away peacefully on February 16, 2026, in Jackson, Mississippi, at the age of 27. Born on June 22, 1998, in Selma, Alabama, Mathew's vibrant spirit and friendly demeanor touched the lives of all who knew him.

Growing up in the warm heart of Selma, Mathew was the beloved son of Theresa Wade and the late Roland James Lachney. His early years in Alabama were filled with the love and laughter of a close-knit family. He attended high school in his hometown, where he formed lasting friendships and discovered his passion for mechanics, a skill that would shape his life's work and interests.

After completing his education, Mathew moved to Jackson, Mississippi, where he established himself as a self-employed mechanic. His natural talent and dedication to his craft earned him a reputation for excellence and reliability in the community. Matthew's work was not just a job; it was a testament to his character, his meticulous attention to detail, and his commitment to service.

Mathew was a man of many passions, chief among them his love for cars and motorcycles. His face would light up with joy when he spoke of racing or when he had the opportunity to ride. His enthusiasm was infectious, and he was always willing to share his knowledge and experiences with fellow enthusiasts. Mathew's garage was not just a place of work but a hub of camaraderie and shared interests.

Described by his friends as the epitome of friendliness, Mathew's presence was a source of comfort and happiness. He was the kind of person who would offer help without hesitation and who could always be counted on in times of need. His generous spirit and kind heart made him a beloved figure in his community.

Mathew survived by his devoted mother, Theresa Wade, of Jackson; his sisters, Renee Filla of Texas, Brandi Lachney of Jackson, and Allison McCleod of Alabama; and his loving companion, Mia, who stood by him through the joys and challenges of life. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, February 26, 2026, from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Sebrell Funeral Home in Ridgeland.
