Mauricio "Maverick" Pacheco, 94, a lifelong resident of Las Vegas, New Mexico, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family. He was born on August 6, 1930, in Chapelle, NM, to the late Antonio Pacheco and Bernadina Lovato Pacheco.
Mauricio was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great-grandfather who lived a life rooted in faith and hard work. He was married for 74 years to the love of his life, Mary Baca Pacheco, who survives him. Together, they raised nine children: Robert Pacheco (Stella) of Bernal, NM; Martha Lopez (late Rudolph "Rudy" Lopez) of Las Vegas, NM; the late Ernesto"Ernie" Pacheco Sr. (Marie) of Rio Rancho, NM; Lillian Trujillo (Johnny) of Rio Rancho, NM; Eloy Pacheco (Patsy) of Las Vegas, NM; the late Santiago "Jimmy" Pacheco; Daniel Pacheco (Theresa) of Greeley, CO; Elizabeth Garcia (Arsenio) of Las Vegas, NM; and Annabelle Pacheco (Leo Paul) of Monte Aplanado(Mora), NM. He is also survived by his sister, Rose Martinez of Tecolote, NM, along with 48 grandchildren, 57 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his sons Santiago "Jimmy" Pacheco and Ernesto "Ernie" Pacheco Sr., his beloved son-in-law Rudolph "Rudy" Lopez, and several siblings who welcomed him into eternal peace.
Mauricio began working as a track man for the railroad at age 18, where he earned the nickname "Maverick." He retired from the railroad but never stopped working the land he loved as a farmer and rancher. He was a parishioner of Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church (OLOS) and a proud member of the Sociedad de San Antonio de Padua de Los Montoya's, honoring his patron saint, San Isidro Labrador, through a life of humility and service.
He will be remembered for his unwavering faith, his devotion to family gatherings, and his many passions, which included working his land, harvesting crops, caring for his animals, coloring, crossword puzzles, and enjoying simple traditions such as coffee, with his sister Rose and other visitors, Sunday breakfast after Mass, and drives to the ranch in Empedrado, NM.
Rosary will be August 11, 2025 at 7:00p.m. Funeral will be August 12, 2025 at 9:30, the funeral will be live streamed at www.oloslasvegas.org or on Facebook @OLOS.LV, Both services will be at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church (OLOS) in Las Vegas, NM with burial following at the Pacheco Family plot in El Empedrado, NM.
