Mavis Elizabeth Hadder, age 89, of Blanchard Michigan passed away peacefully on July 11, 2025.
Mavis was born on August 6, 1935, in Princeberg, Minnesota, to William J. Roelofs and Ida (Devries) Roelofs. She lived a life full of quiet joys, strong values, and lasting connections.
A member of New Hope Church, Mavis found meaning in her faith and community. She especially cherished her outings to Cubs Foods with friends, where coffee and conversation were always on the menu. Mavis had a deep love for reading, puzzles, nature, and spending time with family and friends.
In her younger years, Mavis enjoyed life on the farm-raising pigs, chickens, and caring for her beloved dogs. She also had a passion for cooking and the simple pleasures of rural life.
Mavis took great pride in her work at Willmar Senior High and Adult Alternative Education, where she made a lasting impression on many students with her kind words and warm presence.
She is survived by her children, Pat (Ed) Leiter and Edwina (Mike) Preslicka; her brother, Wayne Roelofs; eight grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Sandra Thompson and Teresa Hadder; sisters, Eleanor Ledeboer and Hilma Brace; and brothers, Harvey Roelofs and Ivan Roelofs.
A visitation will be held on Monday, July 21, 2025, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Janowicz Family Funeral Home in Remus, Michigan. A memorial service to honor Mavis's life will take place on Friday, August 1, 2025 at 11:00AM, at New Hope Global Methodist Church in Mecosta Michigan with Pastor Wayne McKenney officiating. An additional Celebration of Life will be held on August 22, 2025 in Spicer Minnesota.
Mavis's gentle spirit and love for life will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

When I moved away from home I stayed with Grandma. She said my rent was $30 a month for food. She supported me while I was getting on my feet and encouraged me when I was trying to get my first job away from home. I rode my bike to work until it was too cold and then she gave me rides to work until I got my first car. Friday nights when I had a night off we would rent 5 movies for $5 from the video store and then get a Jack's pizza from the grocery store. She also brought me to see the water ski shows in New London. I didn't know it then but those were simpler times. She was very kind. Those were great times.
