Max Randy Kuhn, age 72
July 21, 1952 – July 12, 2025
Max Randy Kuhn, age 72, of Greenup, Illinois, passed away at 5:10 AM – Saturday, July 12, 2025, Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center in Mattoon, Illinois.
Graveside services will be held at 10:00 AM – Tuesday, July 15, 2025, at the Greenup Cemetery in Greenup, Illinois, with military rites. In loving memory of Max, memorials may be made to Saint Jude's Children's Hospital. Arrangements are under the care of the Meyer Funeral Home – Bishop Chapel in Greenup, Illinois. Max was born on July 21, 1952, in Charleston, Illinois, the son of Max Rudy and Betty Yvonne (Phipps) Kuhn. He graduated from Cumberland High School with the Class of 1970. Max married Debra Sherwood on March 15, 2001, and she survives.
Max served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He entered the service on September 13, 1972, and was honorably discharged on September 7, 1974.
Max retired from the State of Illinois Department of Transportation after 16 years of service in highway maintenance. He was a Christian and had been a member of the American Legion and the 40 and 8.
Max loved cars, especially Plymouth Road Runner, watching westerns, watching NASCAR races, fishing on the Embarras River and spending time with his grandchildren.
Max is survived by:
Wife of 24 years – Debra Kuhn of Greenup, Illinois
Children – Felisha (Danny) Evans of Beecher City, Illinois; Ryan (Mykka) Darling of Greenup, Illinois; Erin (Justin) Hetzel of Greenup, Illinois; and Dana (Bryan) Porter of Derby, Kansas
Grandchildren – Alaina Darling, Emme Porter, Eden Hetzel, Asher Porter, Hazel Kuhlman, Elijah Porter, and Audrey Porter.
Max was preceded in death by his parents, granddaughter Ella Grace, sister Marcia Ann Brant and a special brother-in-law Steve Sherwood.
