Max Farrell Rhodes, a faithful servant of Christ passed peacefully into the arms of his Savior on June 27, 2025 at the age of 89.
He was born on January 12, 1936 to Clyde and Mary (Wagner) Rhodes in Walnut Springs, Texas.
The man was the epitome of consistent diligence and hard work. Throughout his school years, he never missed a day of school. He served four years in the Army. He retired from John Manville after 30 years of service while being the biggest supporter of the family business Rhodes Canoe Rental.
Max lived a long, full life marked by unwavering faith, quiet strength, and a steadfast commitment to the calling God placed on his life.
A devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend, Max was the rock of his family providing stability in every season. His wise counsel and strong character will remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
He found joy in the simple things: listening to gospel music, casting a line at his favorite fishing spot, and soaking in God's creation outdoors. He played countless hours of solitaire and completed crossword puzzles daily. Max was a man of few words and emotion until you got him to a football or basketball game.
Known for his delicious peanut butter fudge, Max took pride in making sweet memories for the holidays. He loved chicken fried steak, banana pudding and a coffee soak with his daily breakfast from Debbie's restaurant.
He is survived by his three children: Rhett Rhodes and wife Donna, Jimbo Rhodes and wife Cheryl, Carrie Delaine Rhodes and husband Bryan. 6 grandkids, 11 great grandkids and many others who loved him like family. He was preceded in death by an infant sister, his parents, 4 brothers - Thurman, Bernard, Johnny and Frank Rhodes. The love of his life, Luella Dingler Rhodes and grandson Corey Blake.
A celebration of Max's life will be held on Tuesday, July 1, 2025 at Wiley's Funeral Home in Glen Rose. Visitation will start at 12 pm and service at 1 pm. Burial to follow at Georges Creek Cemetery.
