Maynard "Mickey" James McCrea, 76, of Granite City, IL died on Friday, June 27, 2025 at Gateway Regional Medical Center in Granite City, IL.
He was born on September 5, 1948 in Waterloo, IA to Maynard E. and Ruby (nee: Gibson) McCrea.
Mickey married Martha "Bobbi" Sronce in Edwardsville, IL on June 5, 1992.
The U.S. Army veteran was a 100% disabled veteran due to agent orange. He was a member of the American Legion Post 1131 in Granite City, IL. Mickey enjoyed playing the guitar as he was in a band and he was a life- long collector of guitars. He enjoyed music, especially rock music such as ACDC. Mickey also enjoyed fishing and woodworking when he was able to.
Mickey is survived by his wife; a daughter, Paula Sronce of Granite City; a son, Chris (Tammi) Howlett of Waterloo, IA; 2 brothers: Wayne (Cheryl) McCrea of Glen Carbon and Anthony McCrea of Dixon, IL and 4 sisters: Lois Thompson of St. Cloud, FL, Myrna (Paul) Pongniphon of St. Charles, MO, Julie Hassel of Maryland Heights, MO and Ava (Rich) Carr of Swansea, IL.
Also surviving are sister in law, Kay Sronce of Granite City; brother in law, Madison (Sue) Sronce of Plainfield, IL; special friends: Benny Lofink, whom he played guitar with, Jerry Stafford and Karen Stafford and numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Mickey is preceded in death by 3 sisters: Mary Lee Browning, Patsy Cherry and Rachel Alford.
Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., at which time there will be sharing of memories, on Saturday, July 5, 2025 at Wojstrom Funeral Home & Crematory in Granite City, IL. Burial will follow at Sunset Hill Memorial Estates in Glen Carbon, IL.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that friends and family pay it forward to a veteran.

My sincere condolences to his entire family. Mick was one of the best friends me and my late husband had. Have known him for almost 40 years. Definitely one of a kind. He will be truly missed by many.
