Melissa Ann Lockhart, beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister, and friend, passed away on April 5, 2025, at the age of 49. Born on January 13, 1976, Melissa lived a life full of love, strength, and compassion. She served her community with dedication and heart as a 911 Dispatcher for the cities of La Marque and Texas City until her retirement. Melissa was a calming voice in times of crisis-steadfast, wise, and endlessly caring.
Even after being diagnosed with Facioscapulohumeral Muscular Dystrophy (FSHD), a rare condition, Melissa never let it define or diminish her. Her resilience and determination were matched only by her kindness and fierce love for her family.
Melissa is survived by her loving husband, Johnny Lockhart; her daughters, Johnnie Lockhart-Johnston and Elissa Lockhart; sons-in-law Jesse Johnston and Nazir Martinez; and her grandson, Jasper Johnston, who brought her endless joy.
She is also survived by her mother, Terri Romero, and her husband, Pilar Romero; her brothers, Jose Rivera Jr. (Tina) and Tony Salas (Alexis); Nephews Jax and Trae Salas, Niece Illiana Salas, and a large extended family of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and lifelong friends she considered family from the many places that she's traveled.
Melissa was preceded in death by her father, Lupe Rivera. She was known for her intelligence, her quick wit, and her love of classic films and sweet nostalgia. "Gone with the Wind" held a special place in her heart, as did the charm of Strawberry Shortcake. She loved watching TV, spending time with her family, and making people feel safe and heard-whether over the phone or across the dinner table. She always looked forward to family outings or spontaneous trips to the casino. To know Melissa was to love her. Her legacy is one of quiet strength, deep love, and a spirit that never stopped giving. She will be forever missed and always remembered.
A memorial service will be held at Scott Funeral Home on Tuesday, April 22nd, where family and friends will gather to honor and celebrate Melissa's life.
Visitation will be between 4 pm - 6 pm.
Service will start at 6 pm.
