Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel - Swartz CreekIt is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Melvin Allen Evans, Jr., affectionately known to all as "Bud". Bud left us peacefully at home surrounded by his devoted family on July 2, 2025. Born on December 9, 1937, Bud lived a life rich in learning, love and unwavering dedication to those he cherished.
Bud was a lifelong learner and an exceptional teacher, whose passion for reading was surpassed only by his immense love for his family. A teacher for 40+ years he possessed a profound desire to help others grow. A trait he particularly bestowed upon his children and grandchildren, always encouraging their intellectual curiosity and personal development.
He was a magnificent athlete who was inducted into his school’s Hall of Fame and remained a proud and enthusiastic supporter of University of Michigan football throughout his life. He enjoyed an incredible 27 years of retirement, most of which included his love of golf and traveling. His infectious spirit, marked by a keen sense of humor and quick wit, brought joy and laughter to all who knew him.
Bud's selfless, loving, and dedicated nature defined his character. He was a devoted husband to his beloved wife, Rachel, with whom he shared 67 years of a beautiful and enduring marriage. Their bond was an inspiration to all, a testament to true partnership and unwavering commitment.
He is also survived by his son Floyd (Ellen), daughter Tammy (Mary) and grandchildren Dana, Tyler (Lauryn), Erin (Ian) and Adam. He was especially proud of his great-grandchildren Gabrielle (Gabby) and James (Keys). He shared a special bond with his sister Barbara, brother Don, nephew Ron and countless adored nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death are his father Melvin and mother Mae, sisters Dorothy, Aline, and Lorene, father in-law Floyd, mother in-law Thelma, brothers-in-law Clarence and Buck and sisters-in-law Evelyn, Dorothy and Carolyn.
Bud’s greatest hope for future generations, especially his beloved children and grandchildren, would be that they continue to embody the values he held so dear: kindness, empathy, a lifelong pursuit of learning and boundless love. His legacy isn't just in the memories we share but in the ripple effect of these virtues passed down and lived out by those he inspired. He believed that with open hearts and curious minds we could build a brighter, more compassionate world. We find comfort in knowing that his spirit will continue to guide us, just as he guided us in life.
A memorial service to celebrate Bud's life will be held at Flushing Community Church of the Nazarene, 9500 W Pierson Rd, Flushing, MI 48433 on August 9, 2025 at 12:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to The Parkinson’s Foundation or your charity of choice in Bud's memory.
