Mr. Melvin LeRoy Hurelbrink, 90, of rural Taylorville, IL passed peacefully from this life at home with family by his side at 4:12 a.m. Thursday, November 21, 2024.
He was born in Taylorville, IL the son of Arthur and Cleta (Chandler) Hurelbrink. Melvin married Sandra Laney on September 22, 2006, in Springfield, IL.
Mr. Hurelbrink honorably served his country in the U. S. Army between the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. He has quite a history. He formerly raced motorcycles and held records in the state of Kansas which were broken just recently. Melvin worked for Allis Chalmers who sent him to welding school. He held more than 50 different welding certificates. Mr. Hurelbrink even welded for the Gemeni Space Program through Westinghouse in California where he also spent time working as a logger. He had worked as a heavy equipment mechanic. Later in his work career, Melvin put several million miles in as an over-the-road truck driver. He will be forever remembered as a great husband, father, provider and a very kind man.
Surviving are his loving wife Sandra Hurelbrink of rural Taylorville, IL 2 daughters Teresa (husband Michael) St. Louis of Taylorville, IL and Melisa (husband Steve) Seiler of Owaneco, IL 5 grandchildren Kayla (Kyle) Paine, Kayla (Chelsea) Boehme, Kyle (Shelbey) Stilwill, Ashley Baker and Zack Seiler, 7 great-grandchildren, 2 brothers Richard (Amy) Hurelbrink of Colorado and Paul (Sue) Hurelbrink of Mt. Auburn, IL along with several nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Donald Hurelbrink, 2 grandchildren Samuel and Selah St. Louis and a nephew Tommy Hurelbrink.
Private services will be held with full military honors by the U. S. Army and the Inter-Veterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County at Camp Butler National Cemetery. Masterson Funeral Home is honored to be assisting with his arrangements.
