Melvin Larson Obituary

Melvin Kenneth Larson Jr., of Huntley, Illinois passed away on Tuesday, December 3, 2024.
He was born on August 21, 1948, in Chicago, Illinois to Melvin Kenneth Larson Sr. and Lorraine (Gran) Larson. He married Patricia Bongiorno in Chicago in 1969.
Prior to moving to Huntley, Mel and Pat spent many happy post retirement years at their Lakehouse in Edgerton, Wisconsin. They raised their family in the Jefferson Park neighborhood of Chicago. He worked for over 30 years with AT&T (Illinois Bell) as an IBEW technician and retired as an outside plant design engineer.
Mel was an unshakeable fan of the Chicago Cubs, and a lifelong basketball and baseball coach. In his earlier years, He and Pat enjoyed roller-skating together. He could often be spotted driving his golf cart (affectionately dubbed the Red Rocket) around Del Webb and listening to oldies music. He was the King of Home Videos, and frequently recorded his family's holidays and gatherings. Above all else, Mel loved spending time with his friends and family, especially his grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, Patricia, Melvin is survived by his children, Steven (Diane) Larson, Dawn (Paul) Ambrogio, and Keith (Lori) Larson; his sisters, Irene (the late John) Smalec, Linda (the late Ron) Lutz, and Nancy (Randy) Hendricks; and his grandchildren, Abigail Larson, Aidan Larson, Jonathan Ambrogio, Nicole Ambrogio, Kaitlyn Ambrogio, Allison Ambrogio, Brooks Larson, Colt Larson, and Trace Larson.
Melvin was preceded in death by his parents.
A Celebration of Melvin's Life will be held on Tuesday, December 10, 2024, at DeFiore Funeral Home in Huntley. Visitation will be from 4 pm until time of Prayer Services at 7:30 pm. A procession from the Funeral Home to St. Michael the Archangel Cemetery in Palatine will take place on Wednesday, December 11, 2024 at 9:30 am. A Graveside Service will be held at St. Michael The Archangel Cemetery in Palatine at 11 am in the chapel.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St Jude Children's Research Hospital. In keeping with Melvin's wishes, the family kindly requests that everyone come dressed casually in their favorite sports team's attire for both Tuesday and Wednesday.
