Mercedes DuQue Fuentes, passed away on July 8, 2025 in Artesia, New Mexico. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on July 16, 2025 at West Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Carlsbad Cemetery (New Section). There will be no visitation. A reception will be held after the services at The Boys and Girl's Club on National Parks Highway. Please feel free to bring a dish.
On April 7, 1951, Mercedes was born to Jose DuQue and Mercedes Baiza, in Carlsbad, New Mexico. She was a person who wore her heart on her sleeve. She lived a life filled with love, laughter, and devotion to her family. Family mattered to her the most in life. Especially her grandchildren. Throughout her life, she had a passion for helping anyone in need whether it be a place to stay, a meal to eat, or just lending an ear for someone to talk to, she was always there. She left a lasting impression on anyone she met. She will be TRULY missed!!
Mercedes is preceded in death by her husband Walter Edward McCoy II; her son Walter Edward McCoy III; her parents Jose DuQue and Mercedes Baiza Maldonado; her In-Laws Florentino Fuentes and Esperanza Vallejo and "Pops"; her grandmother, Reyes Baiza;, her sister Lupita DuQue; her brother Anastacio Terry "Tacho" Martinez; her brothers-in-law, Jessie Vallejo, Sr. and Manuel Pineda; her sisters-in-law Sally Montoya, Michelle Alvarez, and Adelina Pineda; her daughter-in-law Bernice DuQue; her son-in-law Ysidro Murrillo Portillo Sr., and her great grandson Logan Jagger.
She is survived by her life partner Jose Vallejo Fuentes Sr.; her sons Ricardo DuQue and fiancé Tenille, Jose Vallejo Fuentes Jr. and wife Rosalinda, Jose Angel Fuentes and wife Ashley; her daughters Mercedes P. Rodriguez and husband Gerald, Rebecca Bindel and husband William, Cathalyne Fuentes, Nicole Haines and husband Bobby, Lindsey James and husband George; her sister Josie Sarabia; sisters-in-law Alicia Carrillo, Juanita Vallejo, and Carol Vallejo; her brothers-in-law David Pineda Sr. and Miguel Pineda; her 31 grandchildren Shaneil, Adrian, Ysidro Jr., Ninikia, Tony, Samantha, Suzette, Reese, Zane, Zachry, Zadie, Duke, Julio, Savannah, Esperanza-Zay, Joseanjel, Amellia, Azmeriah, Yociam, Jayden, Alejandro, Timberlee, Melissa, Sean, Anna, Josh, Kimberly, Aaron, Eric, and Lydia; her 21 great grandchildren Adriella, Xavior, Adriana, Adrian Jr., Emerie, AJ, Javier Jr., Myah, Analiyah, Vyolett, Madelyn, Enzo, Mikey, Kyng, Alaxander, Malia, Hezekiah, Jaylee Ann, Elijah, Serenity, Melodie, and Mavis.
Pallbearers are her three sons Ricardo DuQue, Jose V. Fuentes Jr., Jose Angel Fuentes; her two sons-in-law Gerald Rodriguez and William Bindel, and her three grandsons Ysidro Portillo Jr., Duke Danile Fuentes, and Joseanjel Fuentes
Honorary Pallbearers are her two grandsons Julio Fuentes and Eric Hinojos
