Michael S. Burnette, 79, of Athens, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 20, 2026.
Born in Franklin, North Carolina, he was a son of the late Coolidge Austin Burnette, Sr. and Edna McConnell Burnette. Mike was a Veteran of the United States Army. He retired from Georgia Power after more than 30 years of dedicated employment and he was also a longtime member of Prince Avenue Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Patsy Burnette; his second wife, Linda Burnette; his children, Monica Burnette and Jeffrey Burnette and his brothers, Darrell Burnette and Coolidge Austin Burnette, Jr.
Survivors include his son, Jonathan Burnette; step-children, Cindy Meadows (Nathan) and Daniel Oldham; step-grandchildren, Levi Oldham (Zada), Makayla Oldham, Nicholas Meadows (Haley), Tyler Meadows and Jesse Meadows; nieces, Sharon Smith (David) and Marsha Hatch (Pete) and great-nephews, Jake Smith and Colton Smith.
Funeral services will be Monday, February 23, 2026 at 2:30 pm at Lord and Stephens, East. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 1:30 pm at the funeral home.
