Michael Norris Cummings passed away peacefully on the 5th of February, 2026. He was born on August 25th, 1952 to the late Ross and Dollie Cummings. Mike lived an eventful life, serving his country for 20 years in the U.S. Navy. He crossed the world’s oceans over 5 times on amphibious cargo ships, missile guided destroyers, dock landing ships and destroyer tender ships. He served in Vietnam, Urgent Fury (1983 Grenada Conflict), Desert Shield and retired off the coast of Saudi Arabia during Desert Storm. After his military retirement, Mike eventually landed at Frontier Energy, working another 15 years in the field of natural gas before retiring again.
Mike was also very active in his community, being a member of various outreach groups including the USN Sea Cadet Corp, Civitan and Ruritan Clubs. He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, currently serving in post 7794. He was a member of the American Legion post 114. He was a leader in his grandsons Boy Scouts of America Troop, inducted into The Order of the Arrow, and served on The Cook Crew for the Wahissa Lodge 118. He was also a member of Boonville United Methodist Church.
Mike was a “jack of all trades”, could and would tell you how to fix everything! He loved a power tool and spent a lot of time out in the garage. He made many a holiday decoration, from ghosts and headstones on Halloween to an 8 ft. wreath that surrounded the front door at Christmas. He loved the outdoors, enjoying fishing, camping and riding around on his lawn mower or UTV. Most of all, he liked to “shoot the s**t”. He will be missed dearly by all those who knew him.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers (Charlie, Jack, Bill) and his sister (Mary). Mike is survived by his loving wife, Betty Cummings, daughter, Mary Cummings Reinhardt; grandsons, Michael Tyler Reinhardt, and Jacob Lawson (Wren Brown) Reinhardt. A visitation will be held on Friday, February 13th, from 2:00 to 3:00 P.M. at Gentry Family Funeral Services in Jonesville. A memorial service will take place following the visitation in the Gentry Family Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to VFW Post 7794 or American Legion Post 114. The staff of Gentry Family Funeral Services of Jonesville will be serving the Cummings family.
