Michael T. "Mike" Huss, age 78, of Winterset, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 12, 2025, at his home with his beloved wife and family by his side.
Mike was born on November 22, 1946, in Des Moines, Iowa, the son of Phil and Phyllis Huss. After graduating, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, where he proudly served four honorable years. Mike was always proud of his service and loved sharing stories from his Navy days.
Following his military service, Mike worked for Firestone and later for the State of Iowa as a maintenance technician, specializing in boiler systems-a skill he had honed during his time in the Navy. He later joined the Winterset Community School District as a transportation driver, ensuring the safe travel of children of all ages.
On December 3, 2016, Mike was united in marriage to Linda in Winterset, Iowa. Together, they loved to travel, often spending part of each year in Missouri and Arkansas visiting family and enjoying time at the lake.
Mike was a member of the Foursquare Church in Winterset and also a proud member of the Buck Skinners, where he enjoyed crafting his own buckskin clothing. One of his greatest joys was serving as Santa Claus each year, bringing smiles to children and spreading holiday cheer. The joy he brought to others truly reflected the kindness in his heart.
Mike is survived by his wife, Linda of Winterset; children, Michon (Sean) Hubner of West Des Moines and Michael (Lisa) Huss Jr. of Des Moines; grandchildren, Michael, Danelle, Jake, and David; great-grandchildren, Vera Jade, Zoey, Audry, Emma, Ava, and Hannah; step-daughter, Tracy (Steve) Briley of Newton; step-son, Chuck (Angela) Joynes of Des Moines; step-grandchildren, Seth, Treven, Neva, and Audrey; and brothers, Dan Huss of Muscatine and Jim Huss of Arizona.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Phil and Phyllis Huss; his brother, Phil; and his grandparents.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Foursquare Church in Winterset on Saturday, November 1, 2025, at 10:00 a.m., with visitation one hour prior beginning at 9:00 a.m.
