Michael Lloyd Johnson, age 75, of Kensington, Minnesota passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones. He was born on April 13, 1950, in Slayton, Minnesota to Lloyd Vincent and Eileen Rose (Beach) Johnson. He grew up near Currie Minnesota and after graduating from Currie High School he married the love of his life, Linda Pederson in 1970, then moved to Fort Bragg, North Carolina a day later where he served in the U.S. Army 82nd Airborne Division as a heavy equipment operator. Once honorably discharged, they returned to Westbrook, Minnesota and resided there until 1982 where he was employed at Boeck Construction and Gilb Construction of Walnut Grove. In 1982, they moved to Kensington, Minnesota when Mike went to work for Riley Bros. Construction of Morris Minnesota, where he was employed 39 years as a road construction foreman until he retired in 2021.
There were three children born to their family, Andrea, Jeremiah, and Jared.
He was an active member of the community, serving 30 years in the Kensington Fire Department and many terms on city council. He had a great sense of humor, enjoyed pulling pranks on his friends, and making the daily rounds to socialize with all the local businesses. His hobbies included snowmobiling, hunting, trapping, fishing, playing cards, tending to his asparagus patch, riding his Harley & casino trips.
He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Linda; his children: Andrea (Chuck) Haggenmiller, Jeremiah (Joanna) Johnson, Jared Johnson (Tina); mother Eileen Johnson; brother Steve (Diana) Johnson; sister Cathy (Al) Dale; eight grandchildren, Spencer(Nicole) Haggenmiller, Breanna (Logan) Reid, Devin (Brittany) Rau, Grace, Lyla & Jack Johnson and Axel & Ivan Anderson; four great grandchildren Aubrey & Caleb Haggenmiller, Hudson & Hayes Reid.
He was preceded in death by an infant sister, his father Lloyd Johnson, grandparents Herman & Carey (Reinholt) Johnson and Ernest & Lena (Schrier) Beach, his father and mother-in-law Steffen and Irene Pederson, brothers-in-law David Pederson and Greg Karger and many aunts and uncles.
A Visitation will be held from 2:00 to 5:00 PM on Saturday, July 12, 2025, at Erickson-Smith Funeral Home in Hoffman with a Prayer Service at 4:30 PM.
A Procession, escorted by the Kensington Fire & Rescue, to the First Lutheran Cemetery in Kensington for Burial and Military Honors following the Service.
