Michael "Mickie" W. Mann, 80, of New Castle passed away on the afternoon of Saturday, November 25, 2023, peacefully at home surrounded by his family.
He was born on January 23, 1943, in New Castle, a son of the late John and Marie (McClurg) Mann.
Mickie graduated from New Castle Chrysler High School in 1961 and attended St. Paul Bible College in Minnesota. He worked as an Electrician at Chrysler Corporation before retiring in 1998, following over 33 years of service. He founded KIP, Kids Is People, where Chrysler employees purchased Christmas gifts for children. Mickie enjoyed Native American culture and music and was a member of the National Center for Great Lakes Native American Culture. He had a passion for books and was an avid reader and a faithful member of Friends of the Library.
Mickie loved kids and volunteered at schools across Henry County sharing his Native American heritage. He also enjoyed playing guitar and singing with a country group named Sundowners. He owned Garden Spots, a 9-hole golf course on two acres at his residence where he and his friends enjoyed playing together. Most of all, Mickie loved time with his family, and especially his grandchildren, which were the light of his life.
Those left to cherish his memory include his two daughters, Christy Mann (Mandy Otterstad) and Michelle (Tony) Stewart; two sons, Bret (Mel) Mann and Bryan (Kristin) Mann; grandchildren, Gavin and Kaia Peterson-Mann, Spencer, Emilie, Elijah, Jessica, and Drew Stewart, Damon, Miles, Gage (Tori), and Brennan Mann, and Hadley Bennett; siblings, Debi (Garry) Rust, Phil (Vickie) Mann and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 56 years, Linda J. (Cox) Mann; a grandson, Aidan Peterson-Mann and a sister, Carolyn Riall.
The family would like to express their appreciation to Henry County Hospice for their excellent care.
