Michael Leon Merchant, age 57, of Hancock, MD, passed away on Thursday, June 5, 2025.
Born, Thursday, June 22, 1967, in McConnellsburg, PA, he was the son of Michael E. and wife Kathy Merchant of Berkeley Springs, WV; and Linda (Collins) and husband Craig Ziler of Hancock, MD.
Michael was a graduate of Hancock High School, Class of 1985. He worked for the State of Maryland Corrections as a Firearms Instructor until 2017. Michael went on to work for FEMA as an Armed Security Guard.
He was a member of Tonoloway Rod and Gun Club, Hancock, MD. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved hunting.
Michael coached middle school and high school basketball and track. He was an excellent mentor to many neighboring children and young adults, helping them to excel in their sport.
Michael loved God and his best friend, Bullet, his beloved dog.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife Drema F. Merchant of Hancock MD; two daughters, Michaeleon Merchant of Oakland, CA and Celina Merchant of Charleston, SC; and one brother Darius Merchant of Berkeley Springs, WV.
Michael is predeceased by one brother, John Young.
Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, June 11, 2025, at 12:00p.m. at Grove-Rogowski Funeral Home, 141 West Main Street, Hancock, MD 21750 with visitation two hours prior, from 10:00a.m. to 12:00p.m at the funeral home. The Rev F. Allan Weatherholt will officiate. Burial will follow at Orchard Ridge Cemetery, 14128 Orchard Ridge Road, Hancock, MD.
In Lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Michael’s name to Tonoloway Rod and Gun Club. PO Box 117 Hancock, MD 21750.
