Manchester - Michael Weaver, age 96, passed away peacefully, on June 26, 2025. He lived a long, rich, and deeply meaningful life, defined by quiet strength, enduring love, and steadfast devotion to family, his Catholic faith and country.
Born in Manchester, NY in 1928 to John and Mildred (Copey) Weaver, Michael was the second youngest of seven children in a close-knit family. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 59 years, Jane (Digaloma) Weaver in 2009. Together, they built a life grounded in love, loyalty, and family, a partnership that endured through life's many seasons and trials.
Michael proudly served in the United States Army as a paratrooper in the immediate aftermath of World War II, becoming part of the American occupation forces dedicated to the rebuilding and stabilization of Japan. Enlisting during the final years of the war, he played a meaningful role in supporting efforts to restore peace and help reconstruct a nation in need. He served with distinction until his honorable discharge in 1947, achieving the rank of Corporal. His commendations included the Parachutist Badge, the Army Occupation Medal for Japan, and the World War II Victory Medal. Michael's service exemplified the courage, resilience, and unwavering sense of duty that would continue to define his life.
An exceptional athlete in his youth, Michael was offered multiple collegiate athletic scholarships but chose instead a life of service and responsibility. That same dedication later carried into his professional and personal life. He worked hard, remained grounded, and led by quiet example-always putting his loved ones first.
He will be fondly remembered for his dry wit, deep wisdom, and understated charm. Michael never sought attention, but when he spoke, he had a way of making people pause, reflect, and laugh. He cherished life's simple pleasures: a perfectly made Manhattan, a glass of white wine with dinner, a Yankees game on the tv or radio, and time spent with those he loved most. His days were often punctuated by family lunches and dinners with his favorite niece, Linda-gatherings that became traditions in their own right.
Later in life, Michael took up golf with the same quiet determination and fervor that defined everything he did. Though he started the game late, his athleticism shone through as he quickly made it his own-consistently hitting it straight and steady down the fairway. On the course, he found camaraderie, lifelong friendships, and plenty of laughs. It's that competitive spirit that defined his life and kept him going.
Michael is survived by two sons, Michael L. Weaver of Tampa, Florida, and Mark J. Weaver and his wife Holly of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; devoted grandchildren, Mrs. Kelly (Weaver) Maier and her husband Joshua, Mrs. Karen (Weaver) Brundage and her husband Timothy, and Matthew N. Weaver and his wife Sarah, all of the Rochester area; four beloved great-grandchildren, Jackson and Maxwell Maier, Madelyn and Callan "CJ" Weaver; loving nieces, Mrs. Linda (Lepson) Bunis of Victor, Mrs. Ruth (Lepson) Kuhnert of Watertown, Massachusetts, Ms. Kathy Weaver of Rochester; nephew, Robert Weaver and his wife, Barbara, of Egg Harbor Township, New Jersey, all of whom held a very special place in his heart; along with several grand nieces, grand nephews and cherished friends.
Michael was predeceased by his cherished wife Jane; three brothers Frank, John, and Nicholas "Mickey" Weaver; two sisters, Anne Lepson and Geraldine Weaver; and granddaughter, Lauren Christine Weaver.
His funeral mass will be celebrated Saturday, July 5, at 10:00 am at St. Dominic Church, 97 West Main St., Shortsville. Entombment with military honors will follow at St. Rose Cemetery, Shortsville. After the cemetery service, a reception luncheon will follow at Nolan's Pier Room located at 726 S. Main Street Canandaigua. All who attend the service and celebrate a life well lived are invited.
