Michael Womble Obituary

Mike Womble passed away at Harbor's Edge on June 24, 2025 following a short illness. Mike was born in Rocky Mount, North Carolina on September 29, 1939 to James Womble and Myra Clough Womble.
After graduating from Rocky Mount High School he attended college at Richmond Professional Institute (later VCU) with a BA from William and Mary.
Following a stint at Woodward and Lothrop in Washington DC, Mike joined JC Penneys were he worked for over 40 years. His job took him to stores in Hampton Roads, the Seattle area and Southern California. As one former boss put it, Mike touched lives everywhere he went.
Mike started tap dancing at an early age and only gave it up a few years ago when he could no longer remember the steps. Of course, disco was always in his heart. In 2023, he wowed the crowd dancing non-stop for hours on a river boat cruise's "70s" theme party.
He also loved traveling, dining at world class restaurants, and most of all the theater. Once seated, he would frequently ask; "Is this a musical?"
Mike was predeceased by his parents; brother, Wallace Mathis; and by his beloved Aunt Nelly. He is survived by his husband and partner of 45 years, David Palmer, and his brother James Womble. Also mourning his passing are nephew, Brock Womble; nieces Cynthia Womble, Rhonda Strickland, and Angela Barne; as well as many great nieces and nephews. David's immediate family also loved Mike and will miss him greatly.
The family would like to thank the staff at Harbor's Edge Memory Support for their devotion and care over the past nine months.
