Michelle Honea Prater, of Westminster, South Carolina, passed away on July 26, 2025, at the age of 55.

Born on October 13, 1969, in Oconee County, South Carolina, she was the daughter of Harvey Ray and Lillian Long Honea. Michelle was a dedicated rural mail carrier for the United States Postal Service, serving the Fair Play community with care and commitment. She was a faithful and active member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, where she found spiritual strength and meaningful fellowship. Michelle was known as a loving, caring, and devoted mother who made it her mission to ensure her daughters were always well taken care of and actively involved in life, her family was her greatest joy. Michelle had a deep love for animals, especially her chickens, her dog, Cooper, and her donkey, Erving, and was an avid supporter of the Atlanta Braves. Her warmth, compassion, and strong sense of responsibility touched everyone who knew her.

She is survived by her parents; her daughters, Madison Prater and McKenzie Prater (Joshua Lawson); her brother, Shaun Honea; her granddaughter, Abrielle Lawson; and her longtime companion, Dean Burnette.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church at a later date, where she will be laid to rest. The service is postponed to allow the family time to heal and recover.
