Mildred Marie Pack, 97, lovingly known as "Granny", was born on April 11, 1928 in McGregor, TX to Charlie and Ida Walter. She passed away on July 22, 2025, in Rockdale, TX. Funeral service will be 11:00 am Wednesday, July 30, 2025 at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home in Cameron. Visitation will be Wednesday from 10-11 at the funeral home. Burial will be at a later time in Marlow cemetery.
Mildred was first married to E.G. Shelton, with whom she lovingly raised five children. Later in life, she found love again with Ira Pack, Sr., her husband of 40 years. Together, they added two more children to their family.
She was reunited in rest with her husband, her parents, and three of her children: Don Shelton, Lynn Graham and Stacy Shelton; as well as her sister, Barbara Walter, and brother, Joe Walter.
Left to cherish her memory are her beloved children; Judy Sorenson of Rockdale, Joy Niles of Temple, Terri Luster of Cameron, Tamy Krenek and husband, Ed of Rockdale and daughter-in-law Kathy Shelton of Holland. Mildred is also survived by her sister, Evelyn Walter, and brother, Charles Walter, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great -nieces and great nephews. She is also lovingly remembered by her 15 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and 19 great-great grandchildren.
Mildred spent most of her life in
Cameron, TX doing what she loved most – raising her children. She also worked for may years at Walmart in Rockdale where she became a familiar and friendly face, and later at Sam's Club in Temple.
Mildred had an adventurous spirit and a love for travel. She spent much of her life exploring new places across the United States. One of her proudest memories was celebrating her 87th birthday on horseback – a perfect snapshot of her joyful and free-hearted nature.
In her quiet moments, Mildred found joy in sewing. From casserole carriers and cozy pillows to handmade outfits for her children and grandchildren, each stitch was a gift from her heart. She also loved to be in the garden tending to her roses. She knew every name for each plant and exactly how to take care of them all. She still took care of them up until her last day.
Her grandchildren were the treasures of her life. Granny was always up for fun adventures with them. Staying the night at her house was a favorite for the grandkids – because Granny never said no. She never gave out much advice; instead, she led by example. She was always there when you needed her.
Mildred never met a stranger and never had a cross word to say. She was kind, thoughtful, and sharp as a tack. Above all else her love for God and Jesus showed in all that she did. Just as her heart belonged to God it also belonged to her family. Her home was a place of laughter, love, faith, and just a little spoiling – especially for her grandkids.
True to her word, she always said she wanted her obituary to include 30 great-grandchildren and she joyfully met that goal.
The family would like to thank everyone for the kind words, prayers, and memories shared during this time.
