Mary Mildred "Millie" (Lagasse) Pierce
May 15, 1938- April 12, 2025
Millie Pierce, 86, of Moscow, passed away, peacefully, April 12, 2025, after a short illness, at her home with her family by her side. In the weeks prior she was able to welcome loved ones, both family and friends, into her home to visit, to sing songs, and to regale all with her stories and family history. It was a joyful time and she was happy.
Millie was born May 15, 1938, in Alton, Maine, to Albert and Phoebe (Roy) Lagasse. She attended schools in Anson and Bingham and could still tel you the names of her classmates from grade school, where they were, and who they married. After graduation in 1956, she went to work at the Quimby Veneer Mill where she worked for 18 years. When the mill closed, she went to work at Somerset Manor in Bingham doing laundry and as Laundry Supervisor for 20 years until she retired. She kept the tidiest linen and resident closets and drawers. She took pride in everything she did.
In May of 1957 she married the love of her life, "hand-picked by God for her", William B. Pierce. They shared 64 wonderful years together and raised five children. She was a communicant of St. Peter's Catholic Church, Christ the King Parish, in Bingham and a long-time member of the Altar Guild and the Choir.
She was pre-deceased by her parents, her husband, and her sister, Madeline DeMaria.
In the early years of marriage, along with raising her family, she reveled in renovating her home-often tearing down walls or pulling up flooring (to Bil's surprise when he got home). She chronicled the "before and after" along the way with pictures. She never gave up on making improvements; she still had a host of plans she would like to implement. She enjoyed travelling to visit family and she enjoyed talking. To her, there were no strangers, just friends she hadn't met yet. She could talk to anyone -and usually did. She was devout in her faith in God and was able to fulfill a long-held desire to make a return pilgrimage to Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupré in Quebec, Canada, with her siblings; something they used to do with their parents. Anyone who knew her will miss her mini banana bread loafs and her toll house and peanut butter cookies.
She survived bY her five children: William Pierce, Jr., and wife, Maddy, of Embden; Karen Enos of Russell, PA; Michael Pierce of Bingham; Mark Pierce, Sr., and wife, Babette, of Wichita, KS; and Kathryn Pierce and partner, Terry Franzose of Madison. Six grandchildren: Eric Pierce, Christine Parent, Roy Pierce, Christopher Cates, Mark Pierce, Jr, and Candace Payton; 13 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
She is also survived by her siblings: Geneva Adams of Franklin, MA; Theresa Norman of Skowhegan; Joyce Beane and husband Cecil of Pleasant Ridge; Sylvia O'Brey of Las Vegas, NV; and Albert (Sonny) Lagasse, Jr., and his wife Marsha of Concord; along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family would like to send a very special thank you to Maine General Hospice for the compassionate care given to our mother - especially Heather, to whom Mom was partial.
Visiting hours will be Wednesday, April 23rd from 4 p.m. 7 p.m. at Giberson's Funeral Home, 18 River Street, in Bingham. A funeral Mass will be held Thursday, April 24th at 11 a.m. at St. Peter's Church, Christ the King Parish, 26 Owens Street, in Bingham.
