Miriam Ophelia Pitts Nicholson
Oakway- Miriam Ophelia Pitts Nicholson, age 88, passed away on July 6, 2025. She was the beloved wife of the late William "Bill" Holden Nicholson.
Born on May 20, 1937, in Oakway, South Carolina, she was the daughter of the late David Robert Pitts Sr. and Ophelia Taylor Pitts. Miriam worked for many years as a paralegal for attorneys Robert Whitney and Gruber Sires, and later retired from the Magistrate's Office in Walhalla.
A woman of strong faith and deep devotion, Miriam was a longtime member of Oakway Wesleyan Church, where she served faithfully as a pianist, organist, Sunday School teacher, and member of the Women's Missionary Auxiliary (WMA). Her musical talent, gentle spirit, and generous heart touched many lives in her church and community.
She is survived by her daughters, Gina Pruitt and Renee Nicholson; her brother, David Pitts Jr. (Barbara); and her sisters, Brenda Scarbrough (Paul) and Audre Riley.
Miriam is preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
A Funeral Service will be held at 3:30 p.m., Sunday, July 13th, 2025 at Oakway Wesleyan Church with burial to follow at the church cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the church.
