Montgomery "Monty" Paul McKinzie was born on January 27, 1968, at the Lindsay Memorial Hospital, to PJ and Wanda McKinzie. He was diagnosed with Downs Syndrome shortly after his birth. Monty became the family's greatest treasure, not only to his parents, but to his siblings and nieces and nephews. He was surrounded by love and care his entire life. No one could have had more love or shown more love than Monty did.
Monty started school at age three, attending Whitebead School. From there he went to Pauls Valley State School and later advanced on to Pauls Valley High School, where he graduated in May of 1988. In addition to his diploma, Monty was given a card size graduation document, of which he was very proud. He was always pulling it out of his wallet to show. What a joy!
Monty moved to Oklahoma City from Lindsay with his mother in 1991. Shortly after moving to this new location, he began working at Mid Del Workshop in Midwest City, where he worked for over 25 years. Every two weeks, Monty would bring home a big paycheck of which he was very proud. He was a perfect example of a good employee. Monty loved working and the people he worked with, never complaining. When Monty was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease in 2022, his job had to end due to his poor memory.
Monty lived with his mother until her passing in 2018, at which time he went to live with his oldest sister, Diana Jordan. He resided there until his passing at 12:12 P.M. on June 3, 2025.
Monty is profoundly missed by all those who loved him. Left to cherish Monty's memory are his two brothers and sisters-in-law, his two sisters, his nine nieces and nephews, his twenty-one great nieces and nephews, and his great-great nephew.
Monty was very special. He always had a smile for everyone, he was very loving and never met a stranger. He loved playing video games and watching movies with his nieces and nephews, they would play for hours and hours. Although Monty was older, they grew up with him and have especially fond memories of their time together. His favorite sport was wrestling. Monty would stay up late every weekend having candy and a coke while watching his favorite wrestlers compete. He hated baseball and refused to even consider watching it. Monty's favorite singer was Garth Brooks. He loved Dr. Pepper, chocolate, and spaghetti.
Precious memories, how they linger,
How they ever flood my soul,
In the stillness of the midnight,
precious sacred scenes unfold.
A graveside service to honor the life of Monty is set to begin at 11:00 A.M., on Thursday, June 5, 2025, at Greenhill Cemetery in Lindsay, Oklahoma.
Services are under the direction of Scott and Angel Wilbourn of Wilbourn Family Funeral Home. Condolences may be made to the family online at www.wilbournfamilyfuneralhome.com
