Mr. Samuel “Toby” Carey, 85, of Monroe, GA, passed away surrounded by loved ones at home on Friday, July 4, 2025.
Born on September 24, 1939, in Anderson County, SC, Samuel was a man known for his strength, hard work, and unwavering spirit. He never let life keep him down for long and was always on the move, facing every day with grit and determination.
Samuel dedicated 36 years of service to Hillcrest Apartments, where his commitment and reliability left a lasting impression on all who knew him. A man of quiet faith and strong values, Samuel attended church at Turning Point Baptist Church in Winder, GA, where he grew to love his surrounding church family.
He is survived by his loving wife of 18 years, Linda Carey; children Daniel (Brandy) Young of Calhoun, GA, Dawn Cravens of Calhoun, GA, and Dallas (Andrew) Franklin of Winder, GA; siblings William Carey, Bertha Lee Green, and Rachel Eaton; four grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Manuel Carey and Rosie Hart Carey, and his siblings Bill Carey, Ella Mae Hanks, Margaret Byrum, and Marlene Timms all of Iva, SC.
The Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, July 9, 2025 in the chapel of Maddox-Carter Memorial Home in Winder, GA, with Pastor Benji Boone and Bro. Kenneth Lee officiating. Burial will follow the service at Barrow Memorial Gardens. The family will be receiving friends on Tuesday, July 8, 2025 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Maddox-Carter Memorial Home.
The gentlemen honored as pallbearers are Daniel Young, Andrew Franklin, Derek Harris, Kenny Wallace, Kevin Meeks, Larry Estes, Curtis Henderson, and Bradley Honea.
Samuel Carey will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered for his strength, his powerful work ethic, being the best husband and father, and for all the tunes he would sing at random.
Flowers are accepted for the funeral service of Toby.
Maddox-Carter Memorial Home, Winder, is entrusted with the arrangements.
